IN BRIEF: Empire Metals announces results from titanium
Empire Metals Limited - London-based, Australia-focused mining, natural resources exploration and development company - Says it has successfully produced an uncoated rutile titanium dioxide pigment from mineral concentrates at its Pitfield titanium project in Western Australia. The company says the result shows conventional processing can convert Pitfield's anatase-rich ore into high-value rutile pigment. It adds that naturally low impurity levels could support use in premium pigment markets and titanium metal production. Empire is now targeting coated rutile pigment for the architectural coatings market, the largest single market for titanium dioxide pigment. It is working with technical advisers on product development, plant design and cost estimates. Empire continues research with Murdoch University into a potential titanium metal production route.
