FTSE 100 & 250 movers in focus:
----------
Victrex, up 15% at 1,002p, 12-month range 515.00p-1,018.00p. Victrex has lifted its annual guidance, as the polymer solutions provider says "strong momentum" has continued into its fourth quarter. Victrex, which serves industries including the aerospace, medical and automotive sectors, is seeing "good growth across all regions". The firm's financial year runs to September 30. "Since our Q3 trading update on 7 July 2026, strong momentum has continued into Q4, with year-on-year growth across our end markets driven by aerospace, value added resellers and electronics," Victrex says. "The previously announced 10% reduction in our headcount has been completed, with the initial benefits being seen during Q4 and contributing to at least GBP10 million of annualised savings from our wider profit improvement plan expected to be delivered in FY 2027." As a result, it now expects underlying pretax profit in the range of GBP45 million and GBP47 million, ahead of a prior forecast of GBP42 million to GBP44 million. In addition, it says Chris Gilbert joined the firm as interim finance chief at the start of September. "Chris brings extensive sector experience, including at Elementis PLC, as well as proven capability of delivering large-scale finance transformation projects with Deloitte LLP. As this is an interim appointment, Chris will not be appointed as a director or join the board of the company," Victrex says.
----------
Funding Circle Holdings, down 6.8% at 195.8p, 12-month range 113.20p-252.02p. Funding Circle shares continue a slide on Wednesday, despite a guidance hike on Tuesday. Shares fell Tuesday despite the small and medium business lender upping its outlook. Pretax profit guidance for 2026 is now over GBP40 million, compared with a prior outlook of at least GBP35 million. "The shares fell 9% on the results day, reflecting a 67% rise over the prior three months, upgraded 2026 guidance that was consistent with consensus rather than ahead of it, and the disappointing news that CEO Lisa Jacobs will step down by September 2027," analysts at Shore Capital Markets explain. "Nevertheless, the presentation reinforced our confidence in the medium-term opportunity."
----------
Michael Page, up 4.0% at 212.3p, 12-month range 101.24p-259.97p. Deutsche Bank says recruitment firms have traded more resiliently than expected, and it is now revisiting "our stance on the sector". Deutsche notes "early signs of recovery" at Michael Page, and Amsterdam-listed Randstad NV. Randstand rises 2.3%. Elsewhere, it lifts Robert Walters PLC to buy' from 'hold' and lifts its price targets for SThree PLC and Adecco Group AG. Adecco rises 1.9% in Zurich, while Robert Walters is untraded in London, where SThree rises 0.4%.
----------
Goodwin, down 3.5% at 14,900.00p, 12-month range 10,050.00p-28,500.00p. The mechanical and refractory engineering company sells a "substantial" portion of its mechanical engineering division in a cash deal worth roughly GBP1.1 billion. The unit, which includes Goodwin Steel Castings Ltd, Goodwin International Ltd, Noreva GmbH, Easat Group and the Pumps Division, is being sold to an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management LP. "The board believes the transaction represents a compelling opportunity to unlock significant shareholder value while creating a more focused group with a strong balance sheet and enhanced capacity to invest in its remaining businesses," Goodwin says. The Financial Times on Tuesday had reported a deal of around GBP1 billion was in the offing. AJ Bell analyst Dan Coatsworth comments: "When a GBP1 billion price tag was reported yesterday afternoon the shares slumped as investors were left disappointed, with confirmation of discussions around a GBP1.1 billion deal doing little to inspire either."
