FTSE 100 & 250 movers in focus:

----------

British American Tobacco PLC, down 2.0% at 4,138.00 pence, 12-month range 3,677.00p-5,368.00p. The cigarette and vaping products maker flags foreign exchange headwinds for 2026, expecting currency effects to reduce full-year adjusted diluted earnings per share growth by 2% to 2.5% at current spot rates. BAT expects revenue and adjusted profit from operations growth at the lower end of its respective 3% to 5% and 4% to 6% guidance ranges, while adjusted diluted EPS growth is expected around the midpoint of its 5% to 8% range at constant exchange rates. Ahead of its capital markets day in the US, BAT targets mid-teens New Category revenue growth through 2030 and a New Category contribution margin of at least 30% by then. It also expects to end 2026 within its 2.0 to 2.5 times target leverage range.

----------

AstraZeneca PLC, up 1.9% at 12,730.00 pence, 12-month range 9,892.00p-15,732.00p. The pharmaceutical company submits a new drug application to the US Food & Drug Administration for Orpathys, or savolitinib, in combination with Tagrisso for certain patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. The application is supported by the global phase III Saffron trial, in which the combination demonstrated statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in progression-free and overall survival compared with doublet platinum-based chemotherapy. Orpathys is being jointly developed by AstraZeneca and Hutchmed China Ltd and is commercialised by AstraZeneca. The treatment is already approved in China based on the phase III Sachi trial.

----------

Vesuvius PLC, up 22% at 455.10 pence, 12-month range 350.00p-507.50p. The engineering company confirms it is "carefully" evaluating the latest takeover proposal from RHI Magnesita NV, which values Vesuvius at around GBP1.37 billion. The offer comprises 470p in cash per Vesuvius share plus 0.28 new RHI shares for every 10 Vesuvius shares, giving a total value of 551p per share. Vesuvius shareholders would own around 13% of the enlarged RHI following completion. The proposal follows several approaches since September 2025, including a 550p-per-share cash offer in March and a 550p cash-and-shares proposal in June, which Vesuvius unanimously rejected. RHI has until October 27 to announce a firm intention to make an offer or walk away.

----------

Close Brothers Group PLC, up 11% at 429.10 pence, 12-month range 318.40p-556.15p. The merchant banking group reports a narrowed pretax loss of GBP60.3 million for the year ended July 31 from GBP122.4 million a year earlier, while its net loss narrows to GBP63.4 million from GBP77.9 million. Adjusted operating profit falls 17% to GBP120.3 million from GBP144.3 million as adjusted operating income declines 6% to GBP642.9 million. Close Brothers adds GBP164.7 million to its motor finance commissions provision, taking the total to around GBP320 million, and says it will not pay a final dividend amid continued uncertainty over legal challenges to the UK Financial Conduct Authority's motor finance consumer redress scheme. Its common equity tier 1 ratio stands at 14.1%, with Basel 3.1 expected to reduce this to 13.3%, while the group continues to target 12% to 13% over the medium term.

----------

Zigup PLC, up 4.7% at 453.25 pence, 12-month range 307.50p-490.00p. The vehicle mobility services provider raises its annual profit expectations following a strong start to the financial year, particularly in Spain and its FMG business. Zigup now expects adjusted pretax profit at the top of the current market expectations range of GBP163.2 million to GBP170.0 million. Average vehicles on hire at the end of August were more than 5% higher than a year earlier, with its Spanish fleet exceeding 80,000 vehicles. FMG volumes are also strong, benefiting from the recent re-awarding and expansion of a Motability contract by one of its largest insurance partners. Leverage remains within its target range of 1 to 2 times.
