The manufacturer of clay and concrete building products rises on expectations that stronger construction volumes from the government's 'Your First Home' scheme could feed through to building products and materials companies, providing broader benefits across the housebuilding supply chain.

MJ Gleeson PLC, up 17% at 285.75 pence, 12-month range 221.00p-435.00p. The UK government unveils 'Your First Home', a new equity loan programme aimed at improving affordability for first-time buyers purchasing new-build properties in England. Eligible buyers will be able to purchase with a deposit of as little as 2.5%, alongside a government-backed equity loan worth up to 20% of the purchase price, initially interest-free. Berenberg says the 20% state contribution and low deposit requirement are the "absolutely critical components" of the scheme and could make a "very significant" positive difference to mortgage affordability. Further details, including costs and implementation timelines, are expected in the UK government budget on October 28.

The educational software and services provider accepts an improved GBP231.2 million takeover offer from Thames Bidco Ltd, controlled by funds and accounts managed or advised by Main Capital Partners BV. The revised offer, worth 105p per Tribal share, is 22% higher than Main Capital's earlier GBP189.3 million offer. A general meeting for shareholders to approve the proposed takeover is scheduled for Friday.

Metir PLC, down 46% at 0.35 pence, 12-month range 0.30p-1.30p. The company reports a widened first-half pretax loss of GBP543,000 from GBP304,000 a year earlier, as revenue falls 60% to GBP367,000 from GBP919,000. Operating expenses rise to GBP713,000 from GBP656,000, although gross margin improves to 46.3% from 38.3%. Metir says working capital remains constrained pending a fundraise.
