FTSE 100 & 250 movers in focus:
----------
Barratt Redrow PLC, up 13% at 350.60 pence, 12-month range 235.40p-410.29p. The housebuilder leads gains by the FTSE 100 index, after the UK government unveils 'Your First Home', a new equity loan programme aimed at improving affordability for first-time buyers purchasing new-build properties in England. Eligible buyers will be able to purchase with a deposit of as little as 2.5%, alongside a government-backed equity loan worth up to 20% of the purchase price, initially interest-free. Berenberg says the 20% state contribution and low deposit requirement are the "absolutely critical components" of the scheme and could make a "very significant" positive difference to mortgage affordability. Further details, including costs and implementation timelines, are expected in the UK government budget on October 28.
----------
Howden Joinery Group PLC, up 5.9% at 804.00 pence, 12-month range 713.00p-981.00p. The kitchen supplier rises on expectations that stronger construction volumes from the 'Your First Home' scheme could feed through to building products, materials and household goods companies, providing benefits across the housebuilding supply chain.
----------
Fresnillo PLC, down 6.0% at 2,717.00 pence, 12-month range 2,000.00p-4,472.00p. The precious metals miner falls amid a widespread pullback in global metal prices, with the sector responsible for the six worst performers in the FTSE 100. Gold is down nearly 3% on Monday compared with Friday, while silver is almost 5% lower.
----------
Land Securities Group PLC, up 1.1% at 624.50 pence, 12-month range 525.00p-726.00p. The property developer exchanges contracts to sell its 123 Victoria Street office building in London to SevenCitiesLdn, on behalf of Seven Capital, for GBP211 million. Landsec will receive GBP181 million on expected completion next month, with the remaining GBP30 million payable within 36 months and attracting 6.0% annual interest. The sale takes office disposals since early 2025 to more than GBP550 million, as Landsec targets GBP2.00 billion of office disposals by 2030. The initial proceeds would reduce its March 2026 loan-to-value ratio by 0.9 percentage points from 38.7%, while net tangible assets per share fall by 0.3%. Chief Executive Mark Allan says the sale is "firmly supportive" of Landsec's objective to deliver sustainable growth in income and earnings per share.
----------
Bodycote PLC, down 3.1% at 917.50 pence, 12-month range 585.00p-967.50p. CVC Advisers says it does not intend to make an offer for Macclesfield, England-based thermal processing firm Bodycote, clearing the way for the heat treatment specialist's agreed GBP1.65 billion takeover by Veritas Capital Fund Management. Bodycote agreed to Veritas's 940 pence-per-share offer earlier in September, comprising 932.8p in cash and a 7.2p interim dividend. CVC had previously been considering its position after earlier proposing a potential offer worth up to 915p per share.
