(Alliance News) - UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy on Wednesday formally intervened in Sky UK Ltd's proposed takeover of ITV M&E Holdings Ltd, ITV PLC's media and entertainment arm.
The minister asked the Competition & Markets Authority and the British communications regulator, Ofcom, to report to her on the deal's impact by January 27.
On October 15, Nandy already said she intended to examine the GBP1.6 billion deal, citing concerns about freedom of expression in news media, plurality of views, and media control. She also noted the deal might impact the availability of a wide range of broadcasting and on-demand programmes throughout the UK.
ITV shares rose 1.2% to 65.80 pence on Wednesday afternoon in London.
