SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: Motorpoint profit drops; Chesnara rises

6th Oct 2022 10:35

(Alliance News) - The following stocks are the leading risers and fallers among London Main Market small-caps on Thursday.

----------

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

----------

Chesnara PLC, up 3.1% at 280.00 pence, 12-month range 253.63p-334.40p. Shares in the insurance company recover slightly after recent weakness. The stock has fallen about 7% since the start of September.

----------

MJ Gleeson PLC, up 2.9% at 422.02 pence, 12-month range 394.00p-862.22p. The stock recovers from a 3.5% fall on Wednesday. Thursday's gain is unable to reverse a near 15% slide in the stock since UK Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng's mini-budget. Housebuilders have struggled since the announcement, amid mortgage-related fears.

----------

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

----------

Motorpoint Group PLC, down 14% at 154.35p, 12-month range 145.00p-382.90p. The vehicle retailer expects pretax profit of around GBP3.0 million for the six months to September 30, down considerably from GBP13.5 million a year prior. It blames the profit drop on investment in new stores, digital and technology capability, and price leadership. Revenue is expected to rise 30% to GBP785 million.
