IN BRIEF: Gemfields shares slide despite "robust" emerald auction

11th Sep 2026 11:42

Gemfields Group Ltd - London-based miner and marketer of coloured gemstones - Gets "robust result" from an auction of commercial-quality rough emeralds that ended on Thursday. All 44 lots of emeralds offered for sale are sold, achieving an average price of USD9.72 per carat and bringing in USD29.6 million in total. The emeralds are from the Kagem mine in Zambia, and the auction is held online after in-person viewings in Jaipur, India. The Kagem mine is 75% owned by Gemfields and 25% by the Zambia government.

"This result demonstrates continued strong demand for commercial-quality emeralds and reflects the solid production performance delivered by Kagem over the past year," says Adrian Banks, managing director of Product & Sales.
