Capital Metals PLC - London-based, Sri Lanka-focused mineral sands mining company - On Friday, says it understands that the board of investment of Sri Lanka, the investment promotion agency, will now be involved in the appraisal of and recommendation for the approval of mineral licences while the GSMB will have a continuing role in managing licences. This follows a Sri Lankan government cabinet paper setting out a change in mineral licensing procedures which was approved in late July. Adds the company is in the final stages of establishing a board of investment company which will hold all its interests in Sri Lanka and will be afforded the direct protections against nationalisation. Greg Martyr, executive chair says: "Through a combination of procedural reforms and public inquiries, it is pleasing to see the ability to abuse authority and frustrate the mineral licensing process is gradually ebbing away from officials in the GSMB. Capital Metals PLC - London-based, Sri Lanka-focused mineral sands mining company - Extends memorandum of understanding with LB Group to December 31, in order to fund the project into production. LB Group is a manufacturer of high-performance titanium dioxide pigments and sponge. The agreement, previously announced in May, is to fund the Eastern Minerals project into production. LB Group will "fully" fund the project, which is estimated to cost USD81 million. Read More

Capital Metals PLC - Sri Lanka-focused mineral sands company - Updates regarding the temporary suspension by the Geological Survey & Mines Bureau of the company's industrial mining licences. Company says it is consulting with its international and local legal advisers but considers the reasons for the notice of cancellation to be devoid of merit. Plans to follow the appeal procedure in accordance with Sri Lanka's Mines & Minerals Act which stipulates that a cancellation shall not take effect unless and until an appeal has been disallowed. Chair Greg Martyr says: "We believe the notice of cancellation of the IMLs is a desperate act of a small number of individuals within the GSMB and, given what is at stake, will be overturned when common sense prevails."
