The independent trustee of the Barclays Group (PSP) Employees' Benefit Trust(the "PSP Trust") notified Barclays PLC on 9 October 2006 that it had on 2October 2006 and 3 October 2006 exercised its discretion and purchased a totalof 439,198 ordinary shares in Barclays PLC at a price of 680.18p per share. Following these transactions, the trustees of all the Barclays Group employees'benefit trusts hold a total of 167,991,608 ordinary shares in Barclays PLC.
