Alpha Launches Tiger MVUL, a Guernsey Managed Variable Universal Life Policy for Ultra High Net Worth Clients in Asia and the Middle East

Alpha Growth plc, a leading global specialist in insurance-linked investments, and institutional wealth solutions, today announced that its life insurance subsidiary, Alpha International Life Assurance Company (Guernsey) Limited ("Alpha Life"), has introduced the Alpha Tiger Managed Variable Universal Life policy ("Alpha Tiger MVUL") for ultra high net worth individuals and families in Asia and the Middle East who are advised by external asset managers ("EAMs") and private banks.

Alpha Tiger MVUL combines permanent life insurance protection with an investment account that can be invested in a range of funds or run by the client's own appointed manager. Families with established investment relationships can add the protection and estate-planning benefits of life insurance without changing how their wealth is managed.

Built Around the Adviser Relationship

The central feature of the Alpha Tiger MVUL is its managed account option. Policyholders may invest premiums across funds on Alpha Life's platform, or appoint their own independent investment manager to run a managed account held under the policy, subject to standard due diligence. EAMs and private bankers can therefore remain closely involved in the client's investment strategy while the policy provides the life insurance structure.

For clients choosing the platform route, the fund range includes semi-passive funds, including ETFs and money market instruments; active funds, which apply a systematic tactical asset overlay to the semi-passive funds with the aim of enhancing returns; and alternative funds, providing access to high-value esoteric assets intended to have low correlation with traditional markets. Five investment strategies are available, Income, Balanced, Growth, Equity and Alternative, and clients may change their allocation as their objectives evolve.

Protection, Flexibility and Continuity

Tailored death benefit: The death benefit equals the policy account value plus a selected net amount at risk of 1%, 10%, 20% or 30% of accumulated planned premiums. This applies up to the start of the fifth policy anniversary year, after which the selected percentage gradually declines to 1% by the tenth policy anniversary year. Policyholders may freely designate up to five beneficiaries.

Liquidity and leverage: Policy loans, pledging, partial withdrawals, additional payments, premium increases and surrenders are all available. The pledging option allows the policy to be used alongside existing private banking credit relationships.

Premium flexibility: Policies are denominated in US dollars. Premiums may be paid annually, semi-annually, quarterly or monthly, and may be paused or skipped subject to terms and conditions. A minimum of US$1,000,000 in total planned premiums must be paid on or before the tenth policy anniversary year.

Tax deferral: Tax on investment returns is deferred until the policy ends and the death benefit is paid, at which point the tax rules of the policyholder's home jurisdiction apply.

Policyholder Assets Held in Trust

Under Guernsey regulation, at least 90% of policyholder assets must be held by an independent trust company. Alpha Life goes further and places 100% of policyholder assets in trust, keeping them separate from the insurer's own balance sheet. Combined with Guernsey's standing as a well-established international finance centre with a strong regulatory framework for the insurance business, this gives clients and their advisers added confidence that the assets backing their policies are protected.

Regional Distribution Led from Singapore

Alpha's regional distribution is led by Melvin Kwek, Principal, Institutional Distribution - APAC & MEA, who is based in Singapore. Kwek is responsible for managing Alpha's distributor relationships across Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Africa, and brings more than two decades of private banking and wealth management experience at institutions including Citigroup, UBS and Credit Suisse.

Alpha is working with select insurance brokers in the region to make Alpha Tiger MVUL available to qualified clients through their existing EAM and private banking relationships.

Focussed on the Policyholder

"At the heart of every wealth structuring decision is the family or institution seeking certainty in a rapidly changing world," said Melvin Kwek. "At the same time, ultra high net worth families in Asia and the Middle East are increasingly looking for structures that protect wealth across generations without disrupting the advisory relationships they rely on. The Alpha Tiger MVUL lets the client's trusted manager remain at the centre of the investment strategy."

"Our goal is not simply a financial product, but to provide a secure, highly adaptable foundation that empowers policy owners to preserve their legacy on their own terms. By combining Guernsey's robust statutory protections with true open-architecture investment flexibility, the Alpha Tiger MVUL allows our clients across Asia and the Middle East to navigate complex cross-border environments with confidence and peace of mind."

"We are pleased to be partnering with a select group of insurance brokers in the region to bring this solution to external asset managers, private banks and their clients."
