Small-cap and AIM movers in focus:
----------
Pensana PLC, up 33% at 48.65 pence, 12-month range 36.60p-152.50p. The rare earths developer says it is progressing discussions with major shareholders, including Cascade, over a proposed USD75 million to USD90 million equity financing for its Longonjo mine in Angola. Cascade expects to provide a significant portion of the funding within the next 14 days, having already invested USD15 million of its overall USD165 million commitment. Pensana says the mine remains on track for commissioning in January 2028 and full production by September 2028, subject to securing funding, despite a slowdown in development while financing is finalised. Construction is 30% complete, with more than 60% of procurement committed. The company expects to secure binding offtake agreements and debt approvals by February 2027, following advanced discussions with Japanese customers and lenders ABSA and EXIM. Longonjo is initially expected to produce 20,000 tonnes of mixed rare earth carbonate annually, rising to 40,000 tonnes in its fourth year. Pensana estimates the project has a net present value of USD2.3 billion and an initial capital cost of USD250 million.
----------
BSF Enterprise PLC, up 16% at 1.10 pence, 12-month range 0.50p-4.00p. The biotechnology company says its Lab-Grown Leather subsidiary has entered into partner-funded commercial evaluation programmes with two leading global luxury fashion houses for its cultivated animal leather product, Elemental Lux. The agreements mark a move beyond preliminary material testing towards product prototyping and potential commercial supply arrangements. BSF says initial material samples have been delivered and invoiced under the first agreement, while the second establishes a funded, multi-stage programme covering tanning optimisation, mechanical testing and prototype development. The next phase, scheduled for the first half of 2027, will include testing against conventional leather and the production of larger material samples for luxury goods prototypes. Successful evaluations could pave the way for formal proof-of-concept and supply agreements, BSF says.
----------
Critical Metals PLC, up 14% at 93.50 pence, 12-month range 6.00p-95.00p. The mining company reports a narrowed pretax loss of GBP317,935 for the year ended June 30 from GBP2.4 million a year earlier, helped by GBP842,991 in debt forgiveness and lower administrative expenses. The company records no revenue in either period, while its operating loss before exceptional items narrows to GBP980,902 from GBP1.8 million. Critical Metals highlights progress at its Molulu copper and cobalt project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where fieldwork resumes following a GBP2.1 million convertible loan note financing with NIU. The first phase of its exploration and trial mining programme aims to establish an ore stockpile for commercial validation, with initial results from extraction, dispatch and delivery expected in late December.
----------
Catenai PLC, up 22% at 0.07 pence, 12-month range 0.05p-0.66p. The technology and digital solutions provider says investee company Alludium has secured Sure Valley Ventures as a paying customer for its artificial intelligence-powered platform for venture capital firms. Sure Valley Ventures, which previously acted as a design partner during development, now uses the platform across all its live deals, marking a commercial milestone for Alludium. The company has signed four additional design partners since its last update, bringing the total to eight, as it shifts its commercial focus towards institutional customers. Alludium plans to discontinue the general-purpose version of its platform, launched in March, to concentrate resources on its institutional offering. It intends eventually to expand beyond venture capital into private equity and private credit.
----------
Safestay PLC, down 29% at 6.00 pence, 12-month range 5.00p-35.00p. Says year-to-date trading remains below board expectations following a weaker-than-anticipated summer, despite recent improvements. The hostel operator warns of continued liquidity pressures during the quieter winter months and is exploring further property disposals and a review of financing arrangements to strengthen its financial position. Bank borrowings fall to GBP9.1 million as at October 23 from GBP13.6 million at June 30, following property sales in Glasgow and Holland Park. Safestay is also reviewing operating costs and plans to relocate its head office to its Elephant & Castle hostel in November to generate savings, while continuing refurbishment work across its portfolio.
