Small-cap and AIM movers in focus:

----------

Mothercare PLC, down 18%, at 0.70p, 12-month range 0.60p-3.90p. The company, which specialises in clothes and other products for newborn babies and children, reports a pretax loss of GBP4.3 million for the year ended March 28, swinging from profit of GBP11.9 million. Revenue falls 42% to GBP22.4 million from GBP38.9 million. "Our results for last year reflect the underlying profitability and cash generation of our asset-light franchise system and the impact of the continuing uncertainty on our franchise partners' operations in the Middle East, where any longer-term impact upon supply chains is still unclear at this stage," the firm says.

----------

Cohort PLC, up 5.8% at 1,430.20 pence, 12-month range 881.10p-1,538.00p. Defence technology business Cohort says it has won a deal worth EUR140.7 million from defence contractor Saab. Cohort's German subsidiary ELAC will work with Saab to deliver integrated sonar systems for the Polish Orka submarine programme. "Work will commence immediately and deliveries will continue out to the mid-2030's. Alongside other recent wins across the group, the contract is expected to enhance the group's adjusted earnings per share in the following financial year and beyond," Cohort adds.

----------

TheWorks.co.uk PLC, down 5.2% at 83.45p, 12-month range 29.00p-92.80p. Kelso Group Holdings PLC wants to install Graeme Coulthard as a director of the seller of stationery and toys. However, TheWorks on Thursday said it thinks this will "create unnecessary distraction, risk derailing delivery of the group's focused growth strategy" while also creating an "imbalance in governance". Kelso owns 10% of TheWorks. TheWorks notes Coulthard himself owns a further 8.0%. TheWorks adds: "Any appointment of Mr Coulthard, who owns approximately 8.0% of the company's shares, would be as a non-independent director, meaning independent non-executive directors would no longer constitute a majority of the board. Mr Coulthard has limited experience as a director of a listed company and no executive experience in multi-site value retail operations." In response on Friday, Kelso says it is "surprised and disappointed by the strength of that response and will respond more fully shortly". IT adds: "Kelso believes the board's description of Mr Coulthard, as having 'no executive experience in multi-site value retail operations', is misleading and reflects poorly on the independent directors. Mr Coulthard joined the board of Card Factory in 2010 when he acquired the business for Charterhouse Capital Partners and served for five years through a period of rapid store roll-out, strong profit growth and a successful flotation in 2014 generating an over 5 fold return on investment. Mr Coulthard remained as a director for a year after flotation. That is direct experience of multi-site value retail."

----------

Mulberry Group PLC, up 4.0% at 219.50 pence, 12-month range 85.00p-220.00p. A strong run for shares in the luxury handbag maker continues. It has risen 60% since reporting earnings on July 22. Numbers showed its pretax loss narrowed to GBP8.9 million in the 52 weeks ended March 28 from GBP32.2 million the year prior. Revenue rise 4.2% to GBP125.5 million from GBP120.4 million, with growth accelerating 11% in the second half.
