FTSE 100 & 250 movers in focus:
----------
Balfour Beatty PLC, up 9.0% at 943p, 12-month range 544.00p-973.00p. Shares in the infrastructure firm hit this 12-month high on the back of raised earning guidance. Underlying profit from operations is 42% higher at GBP153 million in the first half of the year from GBP108 million a year earlier. For the whole of 2026, Balfour Beatty now expects "low double digit percentage" growth. Its previous view was for "high single-digit percentage growth".
----------
Atalaya Mining Copper SA, down 6.6% at 929.25p, 12-month range 481.50p-1,094.00p. Urion Investment Holdings Ltd, part of the Trafigura group, fully exits its holding in the owner and operator of Spain's Proyecto Riotinto copper mine via a share placing run by JP Morgan SE and BMO Capital Markets Ltd. Trafigura sells 16.8 million shares at 915 pence each, banking GBP154 million. Atalaya will receive no proceeds from the sale, as it is of existing shares. They represent just under 11% of Atalaya's equity, and the sale leaves Trafigura with no Atalaya stake. Trafigura in February sold 14.0 million Atalaya shares, an 8.5% stake, at 945p, worth GBP132 million. Trafigura is a Singapore-based commodities supply chain firm.
----------
Tesco PLC, down 2.5% at 450.05p, 12-month range 411.10p-510.40p. Shore Capital cuts the grocer to 'hold'. Shares had come into Wednesday on a four-day losing streak. The summer heatwave has stoked food shortage concerns, AJ Bell analyst Danni Hewson comments. The dry weather has left investors to consider what this means for "crop yields and what that might ultimately mean for the food destined for supermarket shelves". "Homegrown fruit and veg harvests have already come under pressure as temperatures keep creeping up, and meaningful rainfall feels like a distant memory. Grain crops are also impacted, which will have a knock-on effect to the price of animal feed and force some farmers to make tough decisions about the size of their herds," Hewson adds. J Sainsbury PLC shares are down 1.3%. Bucking the trend, Ocado Group PLC rises 3.4% on a bullish JPMorgan note. The investment bank says "execution is improving" at the online grocer and warehouse technology firm. "We like the story," JPMorgan says.
----------
Hill & Smith PLC, down 0.3% at 3,075.00p, 12-month range 1,956.00p-3,220.00p. The infrastructure products provider now expects 2026 "underlying operating profit to be modestly ahead of our previous expectations". Its previous view was for an outcome around USD212 million, which would have represented a 6.2% hike from USD199.7 million. Hill & Smith went into the day with a year-to-date share price stride of 44%, above Balfour's 21% rise. Shore Capital Markets analyst Tom Fraine comments: "We note the 44% YTD share price increase and the potential for profit taking, despite guidance of 2026 being modestly ahead of consensus, which we believe investors had viewed as being conservative."
