FTSE 100 & 250 movers in focus:

----------

Inchcape, down 8.8% at 629.50p, 12-month range 604.50p-895.00p. The automotive distributor hails a "resilient" third quarter performance, but it cut its guidance amid woes in Australia. "Australia remains a challenge - our key brand has underperformed, with deteriorating competitiveness in a rapidly evolving market. We are taking further decisive action there, alongside our existing restructuring activity. We are confident these actions will improve our business in Australia over time, but we expect the current challenges in that market to continue impacting our performance there," Chief Executive Duncan Tait says in a trading statement. Inchcape now expects a lower operating margin for 2026 of around 5.5%, with adjusted earnings per share growth of some 10%. It had previously expected a margin of around 6% and EPS growth of more than 10%.

----------

Rentokil Initial, up 8.3% at 340.95p, 12-month range 293.50p-507.00p. It reports higher third-quarter revenue, backs its expectations and announces a USD200 million share buyback. The Crawley, England-based pest control and hygiene services provider says revenue rose 4.4% to USD1.89 billion in the three months to September 30, from USD1.81 billion a year earlier. At constant exchange rates, revenue increased 4.0%, with organic growth of 3.4%.

----------

J Sainsbury, down 4.0% at 345.60p, 12-month range 293.70p-380.30p. The grocer's like-for-like sales excluding fuel climbed 1.9% year-on-year in the first half ended September 12. In the second quarter alone, growth was 1.2%, shy of company-compiled consensus of 1.9%.

----------

London Stock Exchange Group, up 3.7% at 9,114.00p, 12-month range 6,684.00p-10,140.00p. LSEG reports third quarter growth quickened and it announces a USD3.54 billion deal to acquire Octus. The Octus buy creates a "market leader across public and private credit solutions", the index operator and market data firm said. Octus is being acquired from Permira and the credit intelligence, data and workflows provider's management, including founder Kent Collier. Excluding recoveries, total income climbed 8.5% to GBP2.41 billion on-year, and was 8.8% higher on an organic, constant currency basis. Organic growth in total income excluding recoveries picked up from 7.1% in the second quarter. Reflecting the strong trading, LSEG lifts annual guidance, now seeing organic constant currency growth in total income excluding recoveries of at least 8.0%. It previously saw growth between 7.0% and 7.5%.

----------

Polar Capital Technology Trust PLC, down 2.9% at 610.50p, 12-month range 428.19p-743.50p. The firm, which has a who's who of major tech names in its portfolio, struggles again as investor sentiment towards the artificial intelligence sector worsens again. Meta Platforms Inc had sat some 7% higher in New York after hours, but settled to a more modest 2.2% higher. Although its earnings impressed, a remark about rising serving costs associated with an AI offering spooked the wider market. Chief Financial Officer Susan Li said that AI agent Muse's computing intensity means that expanding its user base will require significant investment and she expects total serving costs to rise. Investor concern recently has been centred on possible lofty AI spend. "Meta's results underlined the balancing act – revenues are growing sharply, but it's sinking up to USD145 billion this year into the AI build out. With even mega tech giants seeing fresh cash flow turn negative to stay ahead, the concern is that companies may slow spending on AI adoption, affecting demand for chips, especially given concerns about hikes in interest rates ahead," Wealth Club analyst Susannah Streeter comments.
