WH Ireland Shareholder Theodore Agnew Sells Entire 3.6% Stake (ALLISS)

27th Jul 2015 09:55

LONDON (Alliance News) - WH Ireland Group PLC on Monday said Theodore Agnew has sold his entire stake in the wealth management and corporate broking company.

Agnew has sold its 957,142 shares in the company for 115 pence per share. The sale was transacted on Friday.

Prior to the sale, Agnew had been the seventh-largest shareholder in the company, with a 3.6% holding.

Agnew is a prominent donor to the Conservative Party and was knighted in the New Year's Honours for his service to education. Agnew sponsors a chain of academies and free schools in Britain and formerly sat on the board of the Department of Education. He now holds a non-executive position on the board of the Ministry of Justice.

He was the subject of controversy in recent years amid suggestions that Michael Gove, the then-education secretary, was planning to appoint him as the chair of Ofsted, the schools inspector. The move had angered those opposed to the growth of academies and free schools in the UK under the coalition government.

Shares in WH Ireland were flat at 118.99 pence on Monday morning.
