UPDATE: Just Eat Confident Despite UK Probe Into Takeaway.com Merger

24th Jan 2020 08:33

(Alliance News) - Just Eat PLC on Friday said a competition probe in the UK will not affect Takeaway.com NV's ability to make its offer unconditional.

Late on Thursday, Dutch takeaway platform Takeaway.com said the Competition & Markets Authority was reconsidering its position on the merger.

The two had originally envisaged trading beginning in London as a new company on Monday next week, and the name was to be changed to Just Eat Takeaway.com NV Friday this week. However, due to the CMA move, the timetable has been delayed by a week, and the new company will be renamed on January 31 and start trading February 3.

Takeaway.com had expected its 916 pence per share offer to become unconditional on Friday, but this will now not happen for another week. Just Eat believes the CMA decision will not affect this any further.

Just Eat shares were 3.0% lower on Friday morning in London at 854.20p each.
