Unite pencils in 2027 launch for Glasgow student housing project

25th Aug 2026 15:44

(Alliance News) - Unite Group PLC on Tuesday said its new property development in Glasgow is on track to complete next year.

The Bristol-based student accommodation provider said the GBP126 million project will be ready at the start of the 2027/2028 academic year.

Called Alexander Quay, but previously known as Central Quay, the development will have 934 beds available. Unite has already passed the "topping out" construction milestone, meaning that the 21-storey building is structurally complete.

Unite noted that the property is near the University of Glasgow, which it expects to provide a stream of tenants.

The landlord also argued that the development will ease the city's housing shortage "by freeing up privately rented homes" for other residents.

Unite shares rose 0.5% to 530.00 pence each on Tuesday afternoon in London.
