SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: MJ Gleeson rises as UK house prices grow

22nd Dec 2022 11:11

(Alliance News) - The following stocks are the leading risers and fallers among London Main Market small-caps on Thursday.

----------

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

----------

MJ Gleeson PLC, up 1.2% at 347.00 pence, 12-month range 331.00p-808.00p. The housebuilder rises after new data shows UK house prices are around GBP17,500 higher on average than at the start of 2022. Zoopla says property values have increased by 7.2% across the year, but it adds that there has been a sharp fall in demand since the summer. The average UK house price is GBP258,100. In the FTSE 100, fellow housebuilders rise as well, with Barratt Developments PLC up 0.6% and Taylor Wimpey adding 0.7%.

----------

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

----------

Gym Group PLC, down 0.2% at 104.60p, 12-month range 91.40p-74.50p. The fitness club chain edges lower as Jefferies cuts the price target for the stock to 220p from 290p previously. The broker maintains its 'buy' recommendation, however. The stock is down 60% in the year-to-date, as investors took fright at the potential for rising costs of energy and the firm's sensitive earnings margins, despite it reporting a strong performance in revenue and membership growth.
