(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC on Wednesday said it has won an Irish High Court ruling rejecting an attempt by online travel agent eDreams Odigeo SA to challenge the jurisdiction of the Irish courts in a dispute over the resale of the carrier's flights.
The Dublin-based budget airline said the ruling allows its legal action against eDreams to proceed. Ryanair is seeking to stop the online travel agent from screen-scraping Ryanair.com and allegedly overcharging customers when reselling its flights.
The decision follows an earlier High Court order under which eDreams gave a permanent undertaking not to access Ryanair's Travel Agent Direct platform after the airline said it had discovered unauthorised use of the system to resell flights at inflated prices.
Ryanair said other approved online travel agent partners, including Booking.com, Lastminute and Kiwi, have direct access to its fares under agreements requiring full price transparency.
A Ryanair spokesperson said: "We welcome this High Court victory for Ryanair and our customers over eDreams. eDreams' attempt to avoid the Irish courts has failed, and our case to stop eDreams screen-scraping Ryanair.com and overcharging consumers will now proceed."
The airline added it will continue pursuing the case and said eDreams could obtain direct access to Ryanair fares if it agrees to the same transparency standards as its approved travel agent partners.
Shares in Ryanair were down 2.3% at EUR24.47 in Dublin on Wednesday afternoon.
