(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC on Monday said it "will vigorously oppose" lobby group ENAA's claim against it in Ireland's High Court, saying it is "trying to misuse" EU ownership rules.
The Dublin-based airline operator said it has "confirmed" that the European Network Airlines Association is "trying to misuse the EU ownership and control rules via the Irish High Court to restrict competition and choice for EU air travel."
Members of the ENAA, a group of major EU airlines, have launched an Irish High Court action alleging that the Irish Aviation Authority has allowed Ryanair to profit from infringement of the bloc's ownership rules.
Ryanair said that the ENAA's members, who include Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Air France KLM SA, "cannot compete with Ryanair's low fares" and are pursuing legal action "instead".
The ENAA's website states that it offers "partnership with the EU institutions to build together smart legislation that...creates new opportunities for EU industry."
Its members "stand in fierce competition with low-cost carriers and non-EU carriers," it also said, adding that many such competitors "benefit from competitive advantages due a more favourable regulatory framework."
In its statement, Ryanair said it "fully complies with EU ownership and control requirements".
The airline added that it "will vigorously oppose ENAA's contrived claim which seeks to ground Ryanair by suspending its air operating licence."
Ryanair shares closed down 0.5% at EUR23.67 on Monday in Dublin.
