Ryanair and Wizz Air announce higher passenger numbers in September

2nd Oct 2026 09:05

(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC and Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Friday announced a rise in passenger numbers in September, despite some flights being cancelled due to UK air traffic control woes.

Dublin-based airline Ryanair said passenger numbers increased to 20.1 million in September from 19.4 million a year prior.

The firm said it operated over 111,700 flights last month, though more than 1,000 were cancelled. It said this was due to UK air traffic control woes, Belgian strikes and eruptions of Mount Etna in Italy.

Ryanair's load factor was 94% in September, unchanged compared to a year ago.

Meanwhile, it's Budapest-based peer Wizz Air said in September, capacity grew 25% on-year to just under 8.5 million seats, while passenger numbers were 24% higher at just under 7.8 million seats.

Wizz Air's load factor slipped to 92.0% from 92.8% a year prior, "although this in part reflected a stronger pricing environment, with a notable improvement seen in the month compared to earlier periods", it added.

Ryanair shares were 1.8% higher at EUR23.40 each on Friday morning in Dublin, while Wizz Air shares were up 0.3% at 1,033.00 pence each in London.
