(Alliance News) - RTW Biotech Opportunities Ltd on Friday said there was an additional investment in the financing of private portfolio company Encoded Therapeutics.
The investor in the life sciences sector said the investment is in the USD275 million Series F financing of the clinical-stage biotechnology company, which is developing one-time precision genetic medicines for severe neurological disorders.
Encoded's lead programme is ETX101, a one-time gene therapy for patients with Dravet syndrome, a severe treatment-resistant childhood epilepsy for which no approved therapy addresses the underlying genetic cause, RTW Biotech said.
RTW Biotech said it first invested in Encoded's series D financing in June 2020, and has invested a further USD4.1 million as part of this financing. It added that as of July 31, Encoded represented 0.1% of its net asset value.
RTE Investments Chief Investment Officer Rod Wong said: "This is one of the largest private financings of a CNS gene therapy company in recent years and is a strong endorsement of Encoded's science. It also underscores the potential for further value realisation in RTW Bio's portfolio as key programmes mature toward the clinic and public markets."
RTW Biotech shares were 0.9% higher at USD2.38 each on Friday morning in London.
