LONDON (Alliance News) - Mobile payments firm Proxama PLC Thursday said it is enabling shoppers at high street favourite Argos to pay for items using Near Field Communication-enabled smartphones.
From January 18 in 40 Argos stores throughout the UK, shoppers have been able to tap their NFC-enabled smartphones to engage with store staff who are wearing NFC-enabled lanyards recommending the latest offers. Customers will also be able to tap in-store cards to download the Argos mobile app to make purchases on the go.
Proxama will be providing its Mobile-In-Retail solution and TapPoint platform as the underlying technology, providing Argos with a complete end-to-end solution and rich campaign analytics.
Catalogue merchant Argos has been a staple of the UK high street since the 1970s, selling general goods including toys and kitchen utensils across its 740 stores. Together with sister company Homebase, it forms part of the Home Retail Group PLC alongside household furnishings firm Habitat.
The stock was trading at 4.25 pence Thursday morning, up 0.20 pence or 4.9%. Home Retail Group shares were down 2.2% to 177.85 pence.
