(Alliance News) - B&M European Value Retail PLC is seeking to acquire a small number of sites from struggling rival Poundland as it faces administration, Sky News reported.
B&M, the UK variety and discount retailer, is looking to "cherrypick" a number of stores in the low double digits, according to Sky.
Poundland employs close to 12,000 people and operates nearly 600 stores across the UK and Ireland. The retailer is exploring a sale or break-up, with owner Gordon Brothers recently appointing specialists to oversee the process.
In June 2025, Poundland was acquired by Boston-based asset management company Gordon Brothers for GBP1 from Polish firm Pepco Group NV.
Sky reported that retailers The Range and Poundstretcher were also said to be interested. Poundstretcher is owned by Lidl.
Two solvent offers to buy Poundland are on the table, including one from Ireland's Martin Property Group, which is said to be favoured by Poundland's executive team, Sky reported.
The UK and Irish businesses could be sold separately.
Last week, Gordon Brothers said: "The board will now objectively evaluate [its] options, considering all relevant stakeholders, with a view to minimising uncertainty for the people, suppliers and local communities with an interest in the business and its future."
Shares in B&M were down 3.8% at 275.20 pence each on Monday afternoon in London.
