(Alliance News) - Plus500 Ltd on Tuesday said it has agreed to buy Brazilian broker-dealer Guru Corretora de Titulos e Valores Mobiliarios Ltda, expanding its presence in Latin America.
The Haifa, Israel-based online trading platform operator said the acquisition would provide it with a direct presence in Brazil, Latin America's largest economy, and allow it to broaden its offering to include Brazilian stocks, futures, options and fixed-income securities.
Guru is regulated by the Central Bank of Brazil and the country's Securities & Exchange Commission.
Plus500 said the acquisition will complement its existing partnership with Brazilian trading technology provider Nelogica and its recent entry into Colombia.
The company did not disclose the acquisition price for Guru. It said the purchase will be funded entirely from existing cash resources, which exceeded USD860 million at June 30.
Completion is subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions, Plus500 said.
The agreement marks Plus500's second acquisition in a week, having announced the purchase of US-based Hedge Capital Markets Inc and its subsidiaries on Tuesday last week.
Chief Executive David Zruia said: "Brazil is one of the world's most attractive trading markets, and acquiring Guru gives us the licence, the experienced local team and the regulatory framework to thrive."
The acquisition will allow Plus500 to offer a broader range of products across Latin America, including providing customers access to US derivatives markets.
Shares in Plus500 edged up 0.2% to 3,324.00 pence in London on Tuesday morning.
