(Alliance News) - Man Group PLC on Monday said it is deepening its ties with Meiji Yasuda Insurance Co, and the Tokyo-based firm could snap up a 5% stake in the investment management firm.
Man Group shares rose 4.7% to 328.20 pence each in London on Monday morning.
Meiji Yasuda plans to up its capital commitment to Man Group's investment strategies to JPY200 billion, some USD1.25 billion, over the next three years. It will be focused on "Man Group's private credit capabilities", the FTSE 250 listing said.
"Meiji Yasuda and Man Group to co-develop products; Man Group to become a preferred asset management partner and provide Meiji Yasuda access to the Oxford-Man Institute," Man Group added.
The Oxford-Man Institute was established by Man Group alongside the University of Oxford. It is focused on research in quantitative finance.
In addition, Meiji Yasuda will consider snapping up a 5% stake in Man Group, "to further align interests". That stake would be purchased through shares in the open market, rather than Man Group issuing new stock.
"The expanded partnership reflects the two firms' shared ambition to build a deeper, long-term relationship. For Meiji Yasuda, the partnership provides greater access to Man Group's expertise for the benefit of its clients. This includes knowledge sharing on topics such as technology, as well as access to investment advisory services through the Oxford-Man Institute, helping to strengthen Meiji Yasuda's own resources. For Man Group, it supports the firm's strategic ambitions to continue growing its private credit platform and serve large insurance clients globally," Man Group said.
Financial terms related to the expanded partnership were not stated.
Man Group Chief Executive Officer Robyn Grew said: "We have built a deeply important relationship with Meiji Yasuda over several years and are very pleased to expand our strategic partnership. Meiji Yasuda's increased commitment to our investment strategies underlines our capabilities in private credit and demonstrates our ability to serve large insurance clients globally. The intention to acquire an equity stake reflects our shared vision for the future and further aligns the long-term interests of both companies."
The duo had entered into a strategic partnership back in December 2024. Meiji Yasuda said it aimed to "diversify our portfolio of private assets" through the tie-up.
