Kelso hires DWF chief executive Nigel Knowles as non-executive chair

30th Jan 2023 12:31

(Alliance News) - Kelso Group Holdings PLC on Monday said it appointed Nigel Knowles, chief executive officer of law firm DWF Group PLC, as its non-executive chair.

The Northamptonshire, England investment firm focusing on UK small and mid-cap companies also said Adam Rhodes has resigned and stepped down as a director with immediate effect to pursue other business interests.

It said Knowles would provide experience managing businesses and "tremendous value" to Kelso and its focus on unlocking value in UK-listed companies.

Knowles had been CEO of DWF since May 2020, having previously served as chair from September 2017. He spent over 38 years at law firm DLA Piper, where he was global co-chair and senior partner, and global co-CEO and managing partner from 1996 to 2015.

Kelso said DLA Piper revenues grew to over GBP1.5 billion from GBP52 million during Knowles' tenure as DLA Piper leader.

Knowles also served as chair of the Sheffield City Region LEP from January 2016 to December 2018, being appointed as the mayor's special adviser for trade and investment until 2015.

He received a knighthood in 2019 in recognition of his services to the legal industry, Kelso added.

"It is a huge privilege to welcome Sir Nigel Knowles to the board as our non-executive chairman, his vast experience will undoubtedly add significant value to Kelso and its strategy. We look forward to his advice and guidance," said Kelso CEO John Goold.

"At the same time, I want to thank Adam Rhodes for his efforts in getting Kelso to where it is today."

Shares in Kelso traded flat to 5.00 pence each in London on Monday afternoon, while shares in DWF were down 0.4% to 81.70p.
