JD Sports victim of cybersecurity incident, customer data at risk

30th Jan 2023 11:13

(Alliance News) - JD Sports Fashion PLC said on Monday that it was the target of a cyber incident which saw unauthorised access to a system containing customer data.

According to the Lancashire, England-based sportswear retailer, the data in question related to some online orders placed between November 2018 and October 2020. The affected JD Sports group brands were JD, Size?, Millets, Blacks, Scotts, and MilletSport.

JD Sports said that it believed limited data was affected, on the basis that it does not hold full payment card data and did not believe account passwords were accessed. It added that it was "proactively contacting" affected customers, so it could advise them to be vigilant to the risk of fraud and phishing attacks.

"We want to apologise to those customers who may have been affected by this incident. We are advising them to be vigilant about potential scam e-mails, calls and texts and providing details on how to report these. We are continuing with a full review of our cyber security in partnership with external specialists following this incident. Protecting the data of our customers is an absolute priority for JD," said Chief Financial Officer Neil Greenhalgh.

JD Sports shares were trading 0.8% lower at 160.35 pence each in London on Monday morning.
