LONDON (Alliance News) - ITV PLC said Wednesday that it will be launching a new pay TV channel, ITV Encore, as part of a wider four-year partnership with British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC.
Additionally, ITV's content will be made available across BSkyB's platforms including Sky+HD, Sky Go, Sky Store and its on demand service NOW TV.
The new channel is ITV's first new channel launch in eight years, and it will show ITV's drama series as well as new original commissions.
"The time is absolutely right to build on our successful partnership with Sky with the launch of ITV Encore, which will be an important part of ITV's family of channels, and will complement ITV3, home to our long-running, classic drama series," said ITV Chief Executive Adam Crozier in a statement.
"This is good news for Sky customers and a positive way for us to work with ITV in a broad, mutually beneficial partnership," said BSkyB Chief Executive Jeremy Darroch in a statement.
Shares in ITV were trading up 1.0% at 198.50 pence Wednesday morning. BSkyB's shares were trading down 1.2% at 857.00 pence.
