Standard Chartered PLC - London-based, Asia-focused bank - Says that the USD1.00 billion buyback programme, which it announced in its first-half results earlier on Wednesday, will start on Thursday and end no later than January 29. Says the buyback is intended to reduce its share capital. It has entered a non-discretionary agreement with Goldman Sachs International, which will repurchase the shares on its behalf. The maximum number of shares that can be bought back is 201.5 million, with all repurchases conducted on the London Stock Exchange and/or Cboe Europe.
Current stock price: 2,152.00 pence, up 2.6% on Wednesday afternoon in London
