IN BRIEF: JPMorgan UK Smaller underperforms against benchmark

25th Mar 2022 16:52

JPMorgan UK Smaller Cos Investment Trust PLC - a trust giving access to growing smaller companies in the UK - For the six months ended January 31, net asset value total return falls 9.0%, compared to a 4.5% drop in the total return from the Numis Smaller Cos plus AIM excluding Investment Cos Index.

As at January 31, net asset value per share rises 15% to 398.7 pence from 345.6p the same date a year before. Declares no interim dividend, in line with prior year.

"The situation in Ukraine and its evolution will clearly continue to have an enormous impact on global economies. The unpredictability of Putin adds a further frightening dimension and also increased uncertainty for policy makers and the markets," says Chair Andrew Impey.

"Whilst the short-term prospects for equity markets are uncertain, human ingenuity will eventually rise to the challenge as it has in the past and new opportunities and business models will be created. Smaller, agile companies are well placed to capitalise on this and it is the investment managers job to seek them out," Impey adds.

Current stock price: 328.70 pence

12-month change: down 12%
