Distil PLC - London-based owner of drinks brands including RedLeg Spiced Rum and Blackwoods Gin - Ardgowan Distillery Co Ltd hires Paul Currie as chair. Currie has 30 years experience in the whisky industry, including founding the Isle of Arran Distillers and the Lakes Distillery.
Distil invested GBP3 million in Ardgowan back in 2021 in support of the new company's plan to build a GBP20 million whisky distillery at Inverkip, Scotland, near Glasgow. Distil on Monday says this "cathedral of whisky" will be operational by the end of this year. The distillery also will provide a new home for Distil's Blackwoods Gin. It is intended to be "carbon-negative" by capturing all the carbon dioxide produced in the fermentation process and turning it into green biomethane that will be used to heat the whisky and gin stills.
