Barclays PLC - London-based financial services company - Commences an up to GBP1.00 billion share buyback programme, which will end no later than January 28. Says the buyback's purpose is to reduce its share capital, so the repurchased shares will be cancelled. Citigroup Global Markets Ltd has agreed to conduct the buybacks on Barclays' behalf. Company can repurchase up to 1.38 billion shares under the programme.
Barclays announced the buyback on Tuesday alongside its second-quarter results, adding that it still targets returning GBP10 billion to shareholders between 2024 and 2026. It also expects to report a "progressive increase in total capital returns" for this year compared with 2025.
