Barclays PLC - London-based bank - Barclays will start its new share buyback programme worth up to GBP500 million immediately after completing its existing GBP1.00 billion buyback, which began on July 29, it says. The new programme will be completed by April 16 next year. Shares repurchased under the programme will be cancelled to reduce share capital. Barclays picks JPMorgan Securities PLC to conduct the buyback independently on its behalf, with purchases taking place on the London Stock Exchange. Plans for the new share buyback were first announced by Barclays with its third-quarter results on Thursday, when it reported a 12% rise in pretax profit and said it will cut 5,000 jobs due to efficiencies from artificial intelligence.
