AIB Group PLC - Dublin-based bank - Says its pillar 2 capital requirement will be reduced to 2.20% from 2.40%, effective from the start of 2027, following the supervisory review and evaluation process carried out by the European Central Bank. Pillar 2 is a requirement imposed by the ECB bank-by-bank in addition to its general 3% leverage ratio requirement. Leverage ratio is Tier 1 capital divided by assets and off-balance sheet items irrespective of their risk. The 2.40% pillar 2 requirement for AIB in 2026 is the same as in 2025 but is down from 2.60% in 2024.
AIB said it continues to have a "very strong capital base". Its fully loaded common equity tier 1 ratio - which is CET 1 capital divided by risk-weighted assets - was 16.1% at the half-year stage, well above its current ECB requirement of 11.28%. AIB's CET 1 requirement is expected to edged down to 11.17% in 2027.
