(Alliance News) - Goldplat PLC on Wednesday reported a sharp rise in fourth-quarter profit, driven primarily by stronger performance from its South African recovery operation.
Pretax profit for the gold recovery company, which has operations in Ghana and South Africa, rose to GBP3.4 million in the fourth quarter ended June 30 from GBP766,000 a year earlier. The measure excludes listing, head-office and small subsidiary costs, but does factor in net finance cost and foreign exchange profit.
Operating profit climbed 93% to GBP3.2 million from GBP1.7 million a year prior. The measure excludes listing and head office costs, finance costs and foreign exchange.
The increase was driven primarily by South Africa, where pretax profit rose to GBP2.6 million from GBP602,000 a year earlier.
Goldplat said increased by-products market share and good volumes, combined with solid gold recoveries from low-grade circuits and support from the higher gold price, resulted in a good operating performance.
In Ghana, pretax profit jumped to GBP830,000 from GBP164,000.
Goldplat noted that although the gold price remained high by historical standards, it contracted by around 16% during the fourth quarter, affecting operating margins.
The price of the precious metal has sat solidly above USD4,000 an ounce since late last year, even topping USD5,000 earlier in 2026, before fading after the onset of the Middle East conflict.
The company declared an interim dividend of 0.23285 pence per share, up from 0.0878p a year prior.
Goldplat also appointed Prasad Jayakody as chief financial officer, following the resignation of Brent Doster earlier this year.
"Prasad has 30 years of extensive financial and corporate experience across different industries including mining and industrial and we are confident he will provide the necessary governance and financial leadership," Goldplat said.
Goldplat shares were flat at 17.75 pence on Wednesday afternoon in London.
