LONDON (Alliance News) - eSports company Gfinity PLC on Thursday said it has secured an agreement with California-based multiplayer online battle arena games developer Super Evil Megacorp to host the finals of the Vainglory Winter Championship.
The championship will be held at the Gfinity Arena in London from March 18 to March 20 and will be the first competition held at the site which will be played on mobile devices.
The eight finalist teams from across Europe will compete to win a prize money pool of USD25,000.
No financial details on the agreement were disclosed.
"We are delighted to be working with Super Evil Megacorp and hosting the finals of their winter championship. The success of Vainglory is evidence of increasing popularity of eSports amongst the touchscreen generation who want to compete against each other on games that combine team play with strategic thinking, skills and graphics previously seen only in PC games," said Neville Upton, Gfinity's chief executive.
Shares in Gfinity were down 6.1% early Thursday to 13.5 pence.
