LONDON (Alliance News) - eSports business Gfinity PLC said Monday it has been appointed by Microsoft Corp to host the UK Halo World Championship 2016 qualifiers and finals, part of the Halo World Championship.
This tournament is a competition of Microsoft's best-selling video game franchise 'Halo', and Gfinity said the current prize pool for the tournament stands at USD1.7 million, and is expected to rise further.
The UK Championship finals will be played at Gfinity's arena in London, as well as streamed online.
"We are delighted to be selected by Microsoft to host the UK Championship of their most successful version of Halo ever. We have proven our ability to organise and deliver pioneering industry events and this announcement is another endorsement of our leading position in eSports," said Chief Executive Officer Neville Upton in a statement.
Shares in Gfinity were untraded early Monday morning. It last closed at 18.00 pence.
