EARNINGS: Iofina optimistic on production boost, "strong" iodine price

18th Sep 2025 14:57

(Alliance News) - The following is a round-up of earnings for London-listed companies, issued on Thursday and not separately reported by Alliance News:

----------

Iofina PLC - Colorado, US-based iodine producer - Hails "record" first-half revenue of USD29.2 million, up from USD26.0 million the previous year. Pretax profit for the six months ended June 30 rose to USD3.5 million from USD1.1 million. The firm's net debt was USD800,000 at the end of June, compared to net cash of USD1.1 million on-year. Iofina also recognised USD1.8 million in tax credits during the first half compared to none a year prior. The company says first-half production of crystalline iodine was within guidance at 305.5 million tonnes, and was 11% ahead of the previous year. Average price realised on iodine sales grew 11% to USD74.27 per kilogram from USD66.84 in the first half of 2024, "but were similar to the prices experienced in H2 2024". In the second half of 2025, Iofina's production target is between 400 and 440 tonnes, and it expects the iodine spot price to remain "strong and firmly above" USD70 per kilogram. This follows a trading update in which Iofina hailed its highest single-month production level in August at 74.3 tonnes. "The group remains well positioned to continue its expansion plans, utilising its strong cash generation and banking facilities to invest for growth," noted Chief Executive Tom Becker.

Petards Group PLC - Guildford, England-based security, communication and surveillance systems developer - Maintains confidence in a full-year performance improvement, as it posts a narrower lost for the first half of 2025. Pretax loss narrowed to GBP312,000 in the six months that ended June 30 from GBP928,000 a year earlier. Revenue rose to GBP7.9 million from GBP4.4 million, though administrative costs were up 32% on-year at GBP4.0 million and cost of sales increased to GBP4.0 million from GBP2.3 million. Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation multiplied to GBP509,000 from GBP33,000. Petards attributes this partly to improvements in the Rail division, as well as a full six months' contribution Affini, a wireless communications firm which Petards acquired in June 2024. "The board remains confident in anticipating a much improved trading performance for the 2025 full year, in line with current market expectations," said Chair Raschid Abdullah.

----------

Sound Energy PLC - London-based energy developer with Moroccan gas prospects - Posts GBP8,000 in nominal revenue for the six months ended June 30 compared to none the year prior. The firm's pretax loss from continuing operations narrowed to GBP5.5 million in the first half from GBP125.1 million the previous year. Sound Energy expects first production of liquefied natural gas in phase-one of its Tendrara project by the end of 2025. Phase-two pipeline development continues with plans to update the front-end engineering & design study. The firm has established HyMaroc Ltd for hydrogen and helium exploration in Morocco, and has signed a binding agreement to form a joint venture business which will produce and sell renewable energy with access to the Moroccan grid. All of Sound Energy's exploration licenses are in the process of being extended or renewed, the company added. Chair Graham Lyon commented: "'The company is now on the cusp of first revenue generation with Tendrara gas production and a funded second phase project development awaiting [the final investment decision]. It has two funded exploration wells to be drilled and has begun diversification with two exciting new ventures."
