EARNINGS AND TRADING: Naked Wines loss widens as sales decline 20%

23rd Jul 2026 15:57

(Alliance News) - The following is a round-up of earnings and trading updates by London-listed companies, issued on Thursday and not separately reported by Alliance News:

----------

Record PLC - Windsor, England-based specialist currency and asset manager - Assets under management total USD122.0 billion at June 30, up 4.7% from USD114.6 billion at March 31, with net flows in the quarter of USD2.3 million. Performance across the group continues to support full-year expectations, Record says. Chief Executive Jan Witte says: "A strong start to the year saw positive net flows across all three product pillars during the quarter. Growth in Risk Management was driven by passive hedging, while Absolute Return benefited from new FX Alpha mandates. Private Markets continued to attract inflows from Solutions for Asset Managers alongside ongoing deployment activity for the Record Infrastructure Equity Fund. Positive underlying asset growth and market movements were partially offset by the impact of foreign exchange movements."

----------

TheWorks.co.uk PLC - Birmingham, England-based seller of books, stationery and toys - Pretax profit from continuing operations drops 28% to GBP6.8 million in the 52 weeks ended May 3 from GBP9.5 million the year prior. This includes an adjusting items charge of GBP500,000 comprised of system transformation costs and a non-cash impairment charge, versus a net GBP4.5 million credit the year prior. On an adjusted basis, pretax profit rises 44% to GBP7.2 million from GBP5.0 million. Diluted earnings per share are 8.3 pence, down 44% from 14.7p. Sales grow 3.1% to GBP260.0 million from GBP252.2 million, with 3.3% like-for-like growth, picking up from 2.3% the year before. LFL sales grow 8.8% during the first 11 weeks of FY27 to July 19, ahead of 7% growth a year ago. This underpins confidence in delivering further sales and profit growth in the current year, the firm says.

----------

Eco Atlantic Oil and Gas Ltd - Atlantic margin-focused oil and gas explorer with offshore license interests in Guyana, Namibia and South Africa - Operating loss widens to USD7.0 million in the financial year ended March 31 from USD2.3 million the year prior. This reflects USD1.6 million impairment of Sharon licence, a doubling in professional fees, and higher general & administrative costs. Eco says it had cash and cash equivalents of USD10.7 million and no debt as at March 31.

----------

Software Circle PLC - Manchester, England-based vertical market software investor - Operating profit rises to GBP723,000 in the financial year ended March 31 from GBP704,000 the year prior. Revenue grows 22% to GBP22.3 million from GBP18.3 million with recurring revenue up to GBP16.8 million from GBP12.7 million. Group organic revenue declines by 1%, better than the 9% drop the year before, due to the continued reduction in non-recurring revenue at Nettl Systems. LPS widens to 0.2 pence from 0.1p, net debt jumps to GBP11.4 million from GBP2.2 million. Trading in the new financial year is in line with internal expectations and the acquisition pipeline remains healthy, it says.

----------

Mortgage Advice Bureau Holdings PLC - Derby, England-based mortgage broker - Total mortgage completions increase by 16% to GBP16.5 billion in the six months ended June 30 from GBP14.2 billion the year prior. This is despite a "challenging market backdrop, with subdued consumer confidence and continued volatility in mortgage pricing creating a more complex environment for both customers and advisers." Revenue increases by 8.0% to GBP160 million from GBP148.2 million, supported by strong refinancing activity. Adjusted pretax profit is expected to be GBP14.6 million, a touch ahead of last year's GBP14.5 million. Expects full-year results to be in line with expectations.

----------

Judges Scientific PLC - London-based firm buys and develops companies in the scientific instrument sector - Says, as expected, trading in the first half of the financial year was significantly weaker than prior year due to the absence of a Geotek coring expedition and two quarters of sales and orders impacted by the previously disclosed uncertainties around US federal funding of scientific research. Expects a 21% drop in revenue from last year's GBP70.2 million and notes order intake is down 11% on-year. Revenue declines in all regions except the UK, which was flat. The lower volumes were only partially offset by actions taken to reduce costs and consequently adjusted earnings per share in the first half is expected to be in the range of 38 pence to 42p. For the full-year, company anticipates adjusted EPS will be in line with current market expectations.

----------

Naked Wines PLC - Norwich, England-based online wine seller - Pretax loss widens to GBP6.3 million in the 52 weeks ended March 30 from GBP4.9 million the year prior. This reflects GBP6.0 million of adjusted items in the financial year versus GBP1.3 million the year prior, including restructuring costs, impairment of non-current assets and write-off of software costs. Revenue drops 20% to GBP199.1 million from GBP250.2 million, revenue per member falls to GBP388 from GBP395 and customer acquisition costs rise to GBP76 from GBP74. Member retention rate is slightly ahead of prior year at 76% from 75%. Expects price increases passed on in the second half of FY26 will have a greater impact in FY27 as they annualise. Cost savings of GBP25 million exceed medium-term target of GBP23 million and will benefit FY27. Reaffirms medium-term target to generate more than GBP45 million of cash by the end of FY30, before distributions, of which GBP9 million has been delivered. Flags a continued commitment to ongoing shareholder distributions, including ad hoc significant distributions. "As we continue to execute our Strategy through FY27, member numbers and revenue will not yet have stabilised, but profitability, cash generation and the quality of our member base will continue to strengthen, laying the foundations for future stability and growth," says Chief Executive Rodrigo Maza.
