Defendants in Symphony Environmental case against EU get extension

12th Mar 2021 11:07

(Alliance News) - Symphony Environmental Technologies PLC said Friday the General Court of the European Union has granted an extension of time to each defendant in its case over the single use plastics directive.

The Borehamwood-based developer of additives to make plastic biodegradable in mid-December opened legal action against the commission, parliament, and council of the EU over its decision to adopt a single use plastics directive.

"Symphony has been advised by three barristers, all experts in EU law, that this part of the directive is confusing and illegal, and substantial damages are being claimed," the company said in December.

On Friday, Symphony noted the defendants in the claim now have until April 7 to file their defence.

Shares in Symphony Environmental Technologies were 3.9% lower in London on Friday at 15.85 pence each.
