Cornish Metals advances South Crofty tin project as drilling ends

12th Oct 2026 12:36

(Alliance News) - Cornish Metals PLC on Monday reported progress on construction and underground development at its South Crofty tin project in Cornwall, alongside the completion of an exploration drilling programme that identified additional tin mineralisation and a new high-grade tungsten zone.

The mineral exploration and development company said dewatering at South Crofty had reached more than 400 metres below surface, while refurbishment of the New Cook's Kitchen shaft continued to advance.

The company expects dewatering and shaft refurbishment to reach approximately 730 metres below surface in the first half of 2027.

Meanwhile, construction work has progressed, with the service winder delivered and mounted on its foundation and the production winder building completed. Bulk excavation for the processing plant is also substantially finished, with civil works underway.

Cornish Metals said its new workshop and storage facility at Bartles Foundry officially opened in September, providing permanent engineering and maintenance infrastructure for the mine.

The company also completed its 2,330-metre Roskear West drilling programme, confirming that tin mineralisation extends west beyond the current mineral resource estimate.

Drilling results included 0.79 metres grading 4.18% tin and 1.51 metres grading 1.46% tin, including a higher-grade section of 0.33 metres at 5.71%.

The programme also identified a new tungsten zone, with an 8.58-metre intersection grading 1.41% tungsten, including 0.52 metres at 15.15%.

Chief Executive Officer Don Turvey said: "The Roskear drilling results also support our view that South Crofty has the potential to grow beyond its current mineral resource, as well as reinforcing the high-grade nature of the resource."

He added that tin remained the company's primary focus despite the tungsten discovery.

Shares in Cornish Metals were 0.3% lower at 104.18 pence in London on Monday afternoon.
