BP Deputy CEO Carol Howle steps down, no successor appointed

3rd Jul 2026 08:37

(Alliance News) - BP PLC on Tuesday disclosed that Deputy Chief Executive Carol Howle will be stepping down.

Howle has spent just three months in the role, which saw her oversee the company's ongoing portfolio review, though the London-based oil major noted that she had spent 26 years at BP. Howle served as interim CEO before the arrival of Meg O'Neill in April.

BP did not provide the date of Howle's departure, but said it will be later in the third quarter. No successor has been appointed.

Meg O'Neill commented: "Carol led the company through a critical transitional phase as interim and then deputy CEO. With her departure I have chosen not to replace the deputy CEO role. We have significant actions underway to streamline the organizational model and we have a focused leadership team in place."

BP shares rose 0.3% to 465.58 pence on Friday morning in London.
