Botswana Minerals identifies nine copper targets ahead of sampling

4th Sep 2026 08:30

(Alliance News) - Botswana Minerals PLC on Friday said it has identified nine copper target areas using artificial intelligence at its southern licences in Botswana, with field sampling set to begin on priority targets in the north.

The Botswana-focused mineral exploration and project development company said it has defined nine principal exploration corridors across eastern Ngamiland.

One southern target is of particular interest as historical boreholes immediately to the south recorded copper oxide and copper carbonate mineralisation.

Eight prospecting licences covering approximately 7,000 square kilometres were awarded to Botswana Minerals in north-west Botswana in January, following an artificial intelligence review of the company's Botswana database covering approximately 95,000 square kilometres.

The company said it has located the relevant historical drill core and will examine it as the exploration programme progresses.

Botswana Minerals said the southern interpretation could have wider regional significance, with published geological work suggesting that parts of north-west Botswana may represent an eastward continuation of Namibia's Matchless Belt beneath Kalahari cover. The Matchless Belt hosts 18 known base-metal sulphide deposits.

The company cautioned that this relationship has not been proven and that it has made no inference about the presence, size or grade of mineralisation on its licences.

At its northern licences, the programme is moving into the field, with sampling set to begin over the highest-priority target areas identified through artificial intelligence, geochemical and historical data analysis.

Botswana Minerals will combine new field data with existing geophysics, historical drilling information, and available drill core to rank targets for drilling.

Chair John Teeling said: "We are progressing our AI targets to drilling sites. We started with a very large Botswana database, used it to secure prospective ground and have progressively narrowed the search. In the north we are moving to sample the best target areas, to define drill sites. In the south, analysis has identified further copper-prone corridors with one target close to known historical copper mineralisation."

Shares in Botswana Minerals were down 4.8% to 0.20 pence per share on Friday morning
