(Alliance News) - Babcock International Group PLC on Wednesday said it had agreed to a two-month extension of an existing UK government contract, as it works to finalise a longer-term framework.
The London-based aerospace, defence and nuclear engineering company said its Future Maritime Support Programme bridging agreement with the UK Ministry of Defence will be extended for two months from Thursday.
This will offer "continuity of critical naval base and nuclear submarine fleet support services" while a successor contract, the "gateway agreement", is finalised, the company explained.
"The gateway agreement will provide the long-term framework for Babcock’s critical contribution to UK defence capability as the sole provider of in-service submarine support to the Royal Navy. It will enable Babcock to support the Royal Navy’s Continuous At Sea Deterrent and its move to warfighting readiness, while providing the foundation for delivering the UK government’s long-term investment in the submarine enterprise," Babcock said.
The company's shares rose 2.0% to 1,019.00 pence each on Wednesday morning in London.
