(Alliance News) - AstraZeneca PLC and Daiichi Sankyo Co Ltd on Thursday said the drugs Enhertu and Datroway received new approvals for breast cancer treatment applications in China.
Both medications are being jointly developed and commercialised by AstraZeneca and Daiichi.
Enhertu was approved as an auxiliary therapy for adults with early breast cancer that showed high levels of a protein called human epidermal growth factor receptor 2. The selected patients also presented residual active cancer cells after treatment with radiation therapy and trastuzumab, an antibody treatment.
Phase 3 trial results showed Enhertu reduced the risk of invasive disease recurrence or death by 53% compared to trastuzumab, and no new safety concerns were identified.
This brings the number of Enhertu indications approved in China to nine. The drug is approved in Brazil, Canada, India and the US, and it is under review in the European Union, Japan and Switzerland.
Daiichi and AstraZeneca’s Datroway was also approved in China for adult patients with unresectable or metastatic triple negative breast cancer who cannot receive inhibitor therapy.
In phase 3 of the trial, median overall survival was 23.7 months, compared with 18.7 months for patients treated with chemotherapy.
Datroway is now approved for two breast cancer indications in China.
AstraZeneca shares were down 1.2% at 12,040.00 pence each on Thursday morning in London, while Daiichi Sankyo closed down 1.8% at JPY2,653.50 in Tokyo.
