(Alliance News) - Asos PLC on Thursday confirmed that customers' "names and contact details" were accessed in a cyber attack earlier this week, and said it has taken steps to "further strengthen" its security.
The London-based online fashion retailer's users received a push notification titled "ASOS HACKED" on Tuesday, in which the hackers said they had "fully compromised the Snowflake instance", Snowflake being a data management cloud service. The hackers' message told Asos to "Engage with us, or we will leak it."
Asos said at the time that "basic personal information...may have been accessed," although it did not believe anyone's payment card information or account passwords were affected.
In an email to users on Thursday, Asos said its investigation has found that the hackers accessed "some personal information, including names and contact details, and certain non-personal account related information."
However, it maintained that no payment card information or account passwords were compromised, and that its website and app "were safe to use throughout, and remain safe to use today".
Asos said customers do not need to take any action, but told them to "please remain cautious of unexpected messages or calls claiming to be from ASOS."
The company also apologised for "any uncertainty" the hack caused, and said it has "already taken additional steps to further strengthen security controls."
It noted that its full investigation into the incident "will continue over the coming weeks".
Asos shares were 1.7% higher at 458.50 pence on Thursday around noon in London.
