(Alliance News) - Asiamet Resources Ltd on Friday said it has begun limestone resource drilling in the Rinjen prospect, near the firm's flagship BKM copper heap leach project.
The Indonesia-based copper producer said securing a local limestone source for use in BKM's process plant neutralisation circuit is a "key enabler" for the projects low operating cost base. This eradicates the need for importing lime from elsewhere at "significantly higher cost".
The drilling programme, around 12 kilometres north of the BKM project in Central Kalimantan, is being executed by the Kalimantan Surya Kencana operations team.
The first phase comprises around 600 to 700 metres of drilling in one location, with a second phase location currently being assessed.
"The first drill hole testing for undercover extensions to a substantial limestone outcrop is now complete having intersected good thicknesses of limestone as predicted," said Chief Executive Officer Darryn McClelland.
"Given the very significant operating cost benefit of sourcing limestone locally within the company's KSK contract of work, verifying the extensive surface assessment work completed over the last 12 months is particularly satisfying."
Shares in Asiamet Resources were down 2.6% at 0.95 pence in London on Friday afternoon. The stock remains up 8.0% over the past year.
McClelland continued: "Executing this programme and the appointment of the BKM project director represent important milestones as we advance financing of the BKM project. I look forward to providing further updates as the momentum to deliver BKM continues to build."
