(Alliance News) - Ashmore Group PLC on Wednesday said the case for investing in emerging markets is "compelling" as it reported a modest increase in third quarter assets under management.
The London-based emerging markets-focused asset manager said AUM totalled USD54.5 billion at September 30, up 0.9% from USD54.0 billion at the end of June, and 1% ahead of company compiled consensus of USD54.2 billion.
This comprised net inflows of USD1.1 billion, partially offset by negative investment performance of USD0.6 billion.
Fixed income AUM fell to USD41.7 billion from USD42.0 billion, Equities AUM rose to USD10.7 billion from USD10.0 billion and Alternatives edged up to USD2.1 billion from USD2.0 billion.
"While the summer months are typically quieter, Ashmore continued to see good levels of client activity and delivered net inflows, which, consistent with the prior financial year, were split equally across fixed income and equities. All investment themes achieved net inflows, except corporate debt (which was flat). The momentum in gross subscriptions continued and gross redemptions fell to the lowest quarterly level in over 15 years," Ashmore said in a statement.
Shares in Ashmore rose 2.1% to 230.56 pence each in London on Wednesday.
Chief Executive Mark Coombs said the case for emerging markets remains "compelling".
"EM fixed income offers higher real yields than [developed markets], with the recent sell-off in government bonds highlighting the structural challenges facing DM, while EM equities trade at a significant discount, with stronger earnings growth, re-rating potential and broader diversification," he added.
